Game Design Competition for Youths

Reimagining Tomorrow's Transport Through Play

Can a game help shape the future of transport?

That was the challenge we posed to youths across Singapore through the Transport Future Game Design Competition.

Launched in March 2026 as part of the Land Transport Master Plan (LTMP) Refresh, the competition invited students to design board or card games that explored the opportunities, challenges and trade-offs involved in shaping Singapore's transport future.

A total of 78 game proposals were submitted by students from 24 secondary schools and 16 junior colleges, polytechnics and Institutes of Higher Learning, each offering a unique perspective on what tomorrow's transport system could look like.

Learning to Think Like a Transport Planner

Before designing their games, more than 200 students took part in an interactive workshop where they were introduced to the key themes behind the LTMP Refresh and the real-world considerations involved in transport planning.

Working alongside facilitators from the Civil Service College's Applied Training and Simulations Team, students explored how transport decisions often involve balancing competing priorities such as efficiency, inclusivity, affordability and sustainability before transforming these ideas into engaging gameplay.

Ideas That Went Beyond the Game Board

Across the submissions, students demonstrated a thoughtful understanding of the complexities behind planning a transport system.

⚖️ Navigating Trade-offs

Many games challenged players to make difficult decisions in a land-scarce Singapore, balancing competing priorities such as travel time, commuter satisfaction, affordability and environmental sustainability.

🌏 Designing for Everyone

Many teams also put themselves in the shoes of different commuters including seniors, families with young children and persons with mobility challenges. This encouraged players to consider how transport can better support people with diverse needs.

🎲 Creativity Meets Real-World Planning

From city-building simulations to role-playing and debate-based games, students brought fresh ideas to life through creative and interactive gameplay, showing that meaningful conversations about transport can happen in unexpected ways.

Celebrating Young Innovators

Following the judging process, 12 teams were shortlisted to present their game concepts to Minister of State, Mr Baey Yam Keng, and a panel of judges from LTA, the National Youth Council and the gamification industry.

The winning teams impressed the judges with their creativity, thoughtful exploration of transport trade-offs and engaging game design, demonstrating how innovative ideas can emerge when youths are empowered to imagine the future.
