Exploring Tomorrow's Transport Together

Over the past few months, more than 400 participants from diverse backgrounds came together through a series of Thematic Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and User Shadowing Studies.

Building on the aspirations shared during our first phase of engagement, participants took a deeper dive into some of Singapore's most important transport issues, from improving first- and last-mile connections to creating more inclusive public transport and reimagining how we share our roads and paths.

What We Explored

These discussions built on the aspirations of Connecting People, Comfortable Journeys and Building Community, while exploring how these ideas could be translated into practical improvements for Singapore's transport system.

Key Insights from the Discussions

🚗 Access to Cars & Alternatives to Ownership

Participants discussed how access to cars may evolve in the future, alongside ways to make alternatives to ownership more attractive.

Some of the ideas shared include:

• Reviewing how COEs are categorised to better reflect today's vehicle landscape.

• Making car-sharing more accessible and family-friendly.

• Strengthening first- and last-mile connections through walking, cycling and public transport.

• Prioritising pedestrians and public transport in road design.

🚶 Reimagining Shared Spaces

Participants explored how roads and paths can better support pedestrians, cyclists, riders and motorists.

Common ideas include:

• Giving greater priority to pedestrians in town centres and residential neighbourhoods.

• Improving road safety through speed calming measures.

• Encouraging gracious and considerate behaviour between different path users.

• Creating shared spaces that are safer and more welcoming for everyone.

🚲 Improving Future Connectivity through Micromobility

Many participants saw micromobility as an important complement to public transport, particularly for shorter journeys.

Here are some suggestions that were raised:

• Expanding connected and dedicated cycling and riding infrastructure.

• Better integration with MRT stations and bus interchanges.

• More sheltered routes, parking and end-of-trip facilities.

• Strengthening education, technology and enforcement to encourage safer riding.

♿ Making Public Transport More Inclusive

To better understand the challenges faced by families, seniors and persons with disabilities, LTA staffs shadowed commuters on their trips to observe their commuting experience firsthand.

Through these focus group discussions and shadowing studies, participants shared how public transport can better support commuters with different needs.

Some of the opportunities identified included:

• Improving accessibility for seniors, families with young children and persons with disabilities.

• Making stations and facilities easier to navigate.

• Raising awareness of existing family-friendly amenities.

• Designing transport experiences that are inclusive by default.
